Does educational leadership enhance instructional quality and student achievement? The case of Austrian primary school leaders

School leadership ranks as an essential factor for successful schools. The purpose of this study is therefore to investigate the effects two central practices – setting directions and managing instructional processes on both quality (mediator) student achievement (target) in Austrian primary data originate from 2018 national educational standards test mathematics, allowing use information 3,785 teachers 73,780 students 2,961 In line with theoretical effectiveness models, results multi-level structural equation analysis reveal systematic relations achievement. However, no direct or indirect dimensions are apparent when simultaneous GPA background variables, such highest parental occupational status, books at home, migration background, language spoken controlled for. We discuss these well previous findings respect methodological issues contextual conditions that deserve more attention future studies.
